The collection is made up of 1,264 works – a number that is growing constantly thanks to the generous collaboration of such partners as Enel, UniCredit and Macroamici which contribute to the development of the museum’s heritage through donations and extended loans. Rome’s Trajan Market is presenting an unconventional exhibition to honour the 1,900th anniversary of the inauguration of Trajan’s Column in which several artistic idioms are presented together for the purpose of creating a broad spectrum focused upon the connection between past and present. The dual natures of this monument/ work of art are linked to the two installations animating the exhibition. Inspired by the frieze, Rumanian artist Luminița Țăranu has created a series of visual evocations based upon the metaphor of the Column itself. The HyperColumna media installation combines the archaeological-historical experience with the use of technology, bringing the existing relationships between monuments, characters, historical events and places to life.

One of the most fascinating exhibits dedicated to Ancient China (3500 – 221 B.C.) is being hosted at the Palazzo Venezia National Museum in Rome. Art treasures and culture that has never yet been on display in Italy like the bronze bust with gold mask from the Sanxingdui (三星堆) Museum and the bronze bells dating back to the Warring States Period. The exhibit is divided into five sections: The Birth of Civilization, The Advent of the Kingdom, Sacrifices to the Gods and Ancestors, Ceremonial Music and the Warring States Period. Curated by Art Exhibitions China, this exhibit is part of an agreement for the promotion of cultural heritage between Italy and China (signed by the Ministry of Culture of both countries in October 2010) and foresees a permanent exchange of museum space dedicated to the respective cultures.

The photographs tell of the intimate sides of ninety-nine protagonists of Italian fiction. Men and women whose iconography is too often stereotyped, conventional and almost taken by force for use by editorial marketing. Nistri, on the other hand, shows them to us in their “natural habitat” and as far away as possible from the glacial composure of a classic authorial portrait. The author created brief captions to accompany his shots. His creativity is entrusted with the task of explaining his choice of shooting location – be it a geographic or psychological one.

This exhibit hosted at Rome’s GNAM National Gallery of Modern Art narrates the story of one of Italy’s most prominent post-war artists: Giosetta Fioroni. The two masters who most influenced her work are Giuseppe Capogrossi and Toti Scialoja. The show focuses upon the career of this great artist from the very beginning to the 1970s. Over eighty drawings, paintings, films, theatre models and illustrations are on display along with a selection of ceramic works which had not been included in Drawing Center’s Spring Presentation. Some of these ceramic pieces were created specifically for this exhibition. Fioroni’s work centres around the idiom of Pop Art as can be seen by her choice of urban and media icons. Many of the portraits imprinted by the artist on canvas or paper are taken from photographs, newspapers or magazines and are embellished through her use of aluminium, silver and polish.
