“Homines” by Mario Ballocco are on display for the very first time: these figures are stylized in a disquieting, cruel and desperate manner – incarnating the social and anthropological dynamics of our everyday lives: falling in love, conflict, submission, betrayal, cultural and political commitment etc.
The sketches were done in the context of the second half of the 1940’s, after the horrific and traumatic years of World War II. The exhibit is made complete by a documentary section that features twelve issues of “AZ” magazine, founded and directed by Ballocco in Milan between 1949 and 1952 along with catalogues, photographs of that era, letters and other material that testify to the activity of this artist.
