John Paul II will be declared blessed on 1 May 2011. The announcement was made with the promulgation of the decree that attributes a miracle to John Paul: the spontaneous cure of French nun Marie Simon Pierre Normand, diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Following the beatification ceremony on 1 May, Pope Wojtyla’s coffin will be transferred from the Vatican Grotto to St. Peter’s Basilica without exhumation. Father Lombardi explains: “The body will not be displayed. It will be placed in a room and a simple marble slab will bear the inscription Beatus Ioannes Paulus II (Blessed John Paul II).” The ceremony will be held on 1 May 2011 at St. Peter’s Basilica and anyone can participate.
