In a way that could be compared to a cinematic sequence, this work tells of the production chain of Petroleum: from the localization of the site and wells to the stages of extraction and refining. The Macro Museum is presenting the personal exhibition of Japanese artist Nagasawa. This new, large show featuring a group of more recent works was designed to pay due homage to one of the most important contemporary sculptors on the international artistic scene. His work reveals the constant concurrence of two poles – the East and the West – which contribute to the definition of the forms in a precision derived from the balance between the parts. Seven large groups of models sculpted in marble, wood and metal are on display: Epicarmo (2012 – a totally new work being shown for the first time), Iride (1993), Ombra verde (2000), Yugao-Jole (2005 – 2013), Tate no me (2007), Selinunte – Dormiveglia (2009). The project was designed and created in collaboration with Giacomo Guidi Arte Contemporanea and the Fondazione Italia Giappone (Italy Japan Foundation).

The Macro Museum is presenting the first personal exhibit by American artist Sam Durant, one of the most prominent artists on today’s international scene. His artistic pursuit is linked to social issues and history’s most important events. He has recently become very interested in Italian history and more specifically in the events surrounding the late 19^th century Anarchist Movement. The exhibit features large-scale sketches connected to American history, his large installation Propaganda of the Deed (2011): a series of busts of anarchists that are unfinished and in white marble placed in front of black drapes and accompanied by a crate of explosives on which some of their famous quotes have been carved. Also on display for the very first time is the Model for Proposal for a Public Fountain (2013).

The exhibition space of the Fondazione Sorgente Group located in Rome’s Via Tritone is hosting an event that is one-of-a-kind. For the first time in Italy, the most sophisticated developments in computer science are being applied to an ancient sculpture. Thanks to multimedia technology, the statue of Athena Nike is able to come back to life and be displayed in its original beauty with three-dimensional projections based upon complex graphic studies. The three-dimensional installation virtually reconstructs the statue and brings it back to life by supplying missing parts. Projections set in Greece during the second half of the 5^th century B.C., the age of the Athenian democracy of Pericles and the building of the Parthenon, serve as a backdrop. The virtual reconstruction of the sculpture is by Paco Lanciano and the Mizar lighting team.

The exhibit unites an intergenerational group of 25 artists active in New York City’s five boroughs, presenting works that reflect upon the city as a means of distribution of power. The title of the exhibit refers to the book “Empire” on American-led global capitalism by Antonio Negri and Michael Hardt (published in 2000) and Empire State of Mind, the world-famous anthem dedicated to New York recorded by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys in 2009. Still life paintings and sculptures are on display at Rome’s National Gallery of Modern Art (Galleria Nazionale D’Arte Moderna  – Gnam). The exhibit develops through three halls in which the works are accompanied by Haiku poetry in honour of Japanese culture. The visitor, like the still life, is called upon a closer analysis and an introspection that offers a different and extremely personal meaning to each work. Louise Berliawsky Nevelson was an American sculptress of Russian origin who holds a prominent place in the realm of 20^th century avant-garde sculpture along with Duchamp, Picasso and Schwitters. Over 70 works of this magnificent artist will be on display: from her sketches and works in pottery dating back to the 1930’s and the assemblage in painted wood from the 1950’s to the masterpieces produced in the 1960’s -70’s up to her most mature, defining works created in the 1980’s. The Reverse Grand Tour is an ambitious project realised by Italian artist Valerio Rocco Orlando over a period of a year thanks to an itinerant residence in some of Rome’s most prestigious foreign academies. In this exclusive preview, the artist is revealing the results of his research: a video-installation with portraits of artists from abroad who offer their personal viewpoints first-hand just like a chorus of conversations (Each artist speaks in his or her native tongue; the clip is sub-titled) and a series of photographs with views of studio interiors in which the concept of “room with a view” is completely reversed. The choice of curators Ludovico Pratesi and Angelandreina Rorro is of presenting the work of a new generation artist in relation to several historical works from the National Gallery of Modern Art collection linked to the Grand Tour as well as self-portraits and portraits by 19^th and 20^th century artists.
