LE CORBUSIER’S ITALY

The Maxxi Museum is dedicating a show to Le Corbusier (the pseudonym of Charles-Édouard Jeanneret), the brilliant architect-sculptor-painter. The exposition features over 600 original drawings, sketches, water paintings, paintings and photographs and adopts a chronological and thematic format to document the many influences Italy had upon the training and work of this master: from his first trips at the beginning of the 20th century to the projects – which never went into construction – for the Olivetti Electronic Calculation Centre in Rho and the hospital in Venice of the 1960’s. The exhibit unwinds among a variety of documents, travel diaries, studies, cultural exchanges and personal aspirations.

ROMA CAPUT MUNDI

The Special Superintendence for Rome’s Archaeological Heritage is telling the story of Ancient Rome’s political and cultural expansion for the very first time through an exhibition. The Coliseum, the Curia Julia and the Temple of Caesar in the Roman Forum are the areas in which the exhibit takes place: from the origins of Rome to the conquest of Italy and her provinces; the cultural and religious influx; slavery and the ethnic melting pot; ancient and modern visions. All of these concepts are displayed through sculptures, reliefs, mosaics, fresco paintings, bronzes and coins can be viewed in the exhibit’s three hosting areas.

MEDITERRANEE by Pedro Cano

Trajan’s Market is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the great Spanish artist Pedro Cano. The show is similar to a journey through his recollections to illustrate the colours, history and secrets of three islands – Majorca, Patmos, Sicily – and the six cities of Alexandria, Cartagena, Istanbul, Naples, Split and Venice. Pedro Cano dedicates six images to every city and island in his loving homage to the sea and the places he visited during his travels: watercolour paintings on paper are mounted to form a single composition. The artist will accompany visitors on guided tours where children can also learn about the art of colour and shape in order to make their experience more gratifying.

THE POPES OF MEMORY

The fascinating exhibit being hosted at Rome’s Castel Sant’Angelo is dedicated to some of history’s greatest popes and the roles they played as spiritual guides for Christianity and as promoters of culture. This exhibit promises to be one of Rome’s most important events of the year. It offers visitors an opportunity to reflect upon the ways the Church’s universal message has been communicated from a variety of viewpoints. A message that was first revealed in Rome and then throughout the world in such areas as faith, art, politics and culture. A selection of works confiscated by the Authorities from the clandestine market are also among the pieces on display.
