The Palazzo delle Esposizioni is dedicating its halls to the great photographer Helmut Newton. The exhibition focuses upon the artist’s first three books published in the late 1970’s. The 200 shots on display could be interpreted as his self-portrait. His first book, “White Women” brought the nude to Fashion, illustrating the change in the perception of the woman in western society. In “Sleepless Night” and “Big Nudes”, the set vanishes and the models take the streets. It is not Fashion that makes news but news that becomes the Fashion. The photographs have been selected and reprinted under the supervision of his wife June, with the intention of telling of the man behind and beyond the lens and his vision of the feminine universe – as well as its evolution.

The National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome is hosting an exhibit of works by Irish artist Sean Scully organized by New York’s Drawing Center. The exhibit is also touring other European cities. MAXXI is devoting the Mirabilia Urbis exhibition to Grazia Toderi, winner of the Golden Lion at the 1999 Venice Biennale and one of the most representative artists of Italy’s generation of the 1990’s.
