CARLO MATTIOLI: A Light in the Shadow
A large retrospective exhibit that will be hosted in the Braccio di Carlo Magno in Saint Peter’s square from 16 September to 13 November.
The exhibit celebrates one of Italy’s greatest 20th century artists. He was capable of showing modern sensibility and attention to new trends. Mattioli pursued a poetic expression and a technique with absolute consistency without ever abandoning the traditional means of “painting. For Mattioli, this will be a return the shadow of St. Peter, since it was here that he was one of the protagonists – exactly 34 years ago – of the historical “The contemporary artists to Pope Paul VI” exhibit which brought the contemporary art section of the Vatican Museums into being.
